Train for Competition as a Ballerina Soloist with Misako

Is your ballerina interested in taking their dancing skills and techniques to the next level? Are they ready to commit to furthering their dance training? We recommend Misako Ballet Studio's personalized competition training, which is ideal for dancers who can train in-studio, who want to level-up their talent and compete in local or regional competitions.

While many dance schools provide competitive training for dance teams, at Misako Ballet Studio we pride ourselves on going deep with our dancers’ training, focusing on their individual mastery and skill. While we don’t participate in team competition, we are passionate about refining a dancer’s talent so that they can shine in their own right competitively. We currently train students at Misako Ballet Studio and those that desire to excel in their brand of mastery from other studios.

For the students that are willing and able to invest in individual competition training, there are many benefits including:

  • A boost in self-confidence. The more dancers bravely take the spotlight in solos on the competition circuit, the more confident they become dancing alone in front of an audience.

  • Unique Skill Refinement. During their performance, a ballerina can demonstrate to the judges and audience the unique skills that define their craft, which is such a proud and memorable achievement for a dancer.

  • Builds Good Work Ethic. Many hours of training are required to master a piece for a competition so this builds student’s level of commitment and work ethic and provides them with a standard of progress to measure themselves against so they evolve into more accomplished dancers.

  • Performing Prowess. With the time spent training, ballerinas get a better understanding of ballet technique, style, and performance ability. They learn the nuances of completing a routine versus performing to express their emotions, which deepens their respect and perspective about what dancing is truly about.

  • The Excitement of Competition. Finally, the dance competition gives students a healthy understanding of winning and losing, as well as accepting critique, which carries over in their whole life. Not to mention the thrill and memories from competing with their peers!

In short, training for competition requires passion, dedication, and commitment, which helps dancers develop a healthy appreciation for the sacrifice needed to achieve important goals.

Misako Ballet Studio recommends that dancers spend about three months or 25 hours minimum of individual training to prepare for a competition. We are open to helping students prepare for any regional competition but have a preference for YGAP because of their history and renown.

Students can bring their own choreography or have Misako craft a unique piece for them worthy of showcasing on a competitive stage.
